Black Friday Air Compressor Deals: Bostitch vs. California Air Tools

A 6-gallon pancake compressor bundled with three nail guns, against a quiet 1-gallon compressor that costs less than half as much.

The bottom line

Get the Bostitch 3-tool kit if you're starting with nail guns: the 6-gallon compressor puts out 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI and comes with a brad nailer, a finish nailer and a crown stapler, for about $286 on Amazon. Get the California Air Tools 1P1060S if noise or weight matters more: it's rated at 56 decibels against about 80 for the Bostitch, weighs 29 pounds and costs about $120, but its 1.2 CFM at 90 PSI suits brad nailers, staplers, airbrushes and tires, not bigger tools. Neither has the airflow for a paint sprayer or steady impact-wrench work.

Pros and cons

Bostitch

Pros

  • 6-gallon tank, 150 PSI max and 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI, per an independent review
  • Kit includes an 18-gauge brad nailer, a 16-gauge finish nailer and a 3/8-inch crown stapler, plus a hose
  • Two air outlets, so two tools can run at once, per an independent review
  • Oil-free pump, so there's no oil to check or change
  • In an independent review it kept up with a roofing nailer laying shingles and, with more cycling, an impact wrench

Cons

  • About 80 decibels when it runs, per an independent review, so it's loud indoors
  • About 42 pounds as a kit (Amazon lists 41.8 lb)
  • 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI is short of what paint sprayers and heavy tools need for steady use
  • Costs more than twice as much as the California Air Tools model, though the price includes three tools

California Air Tools

Pros

  • Rated at 56 decibels, about the level of normal conversation
  • 29 pounds, light enough to carry from room to room
  • Refills from 90 to 120 PSI in 15 seconds, per the maker; an independent review timed 12 to 13 seconds
  • Ran a brad nailer, a construction stapler and an airbrush, and filled oversize truck tires, in an independent review
  • Oil-free pump the maker rates for 3,000+ hours before wear

Cons

  • Not designed for impact wrenches or commercial spray guns, per Bob Vila, and its 1.2 CFM at 90 PSI is short of the 4.5 SCFM Senco lists for framing nailers
  • 120 PSI max, lower than the Bostitch's 150
  • Compressor only; no nail guns in the box
  • 1-year limited warranty

Which one is right for you

If you...PickWhy
Buying your first nail guns for trim, baseboards or furnitureBostitchThe kit comes with a brad nailer, a finish nailer and a crown stapler, and its 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI covers a finish nailer, which Senco lists at 2.2 SCFM.
Working indoors, in an apartment or where noise bothers peopleCalifornia Air ToolsIt's rated at 56 dB; Bob Vila reported about 80 dB for the Bostitch and called it potentially too loud for indoor use.
Airbrushing, crafts or occasional brad nailingCalifornia Air ToolsSenco lists brad nailers and staplers at 0.7 SCFM, well under the 1P1060S's 1.2 CFM at 90 PSI, and it costs about $120.
Topping off car and truck tires in the garageEitherBob Vila filled oversize truck tires with the California Air Tools model; the Bostitch has more air in reserve but weighs more to carry.
Want to run a paint sprayer, an air sander or an impact wrench for long stretchesNeitherSenco lists those tools at 4.5 to 10 SCFM, above both compressors; look at a larger compressor.

Airflow at 90 PSI is the number that matters

A compressor's maximum PSI tells you how hard it can push. Its CFM (cubic feet per minute) at 90 PSI tells you how much air it can keep supplying, and that decides which tools it can run without stopping. Senco, which makes nail guns and compressors, says SCFM is usually measured at 90 PSI and that 100 PSI is more than enough for most common construction tools.

Senco's sizing chart puts a brad nailer or stapler at 0.7 SCFM, a finish nailer at 2.2 SCFM, a framing nailer, air wrench or air sander at 4.5 SCFM and a paint sprayer at 10 SCFM. The Bostitch's 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI clears a finish nailer. The California Air Tools model's 1.2 CFM clears brad nailers and staplers comfortably. Its maker also lists finish nailers as a use, but that's above Senco's guideline, so expect to wait on the compressor during fast nailing.

What the extra $166 buys with the Bostitch

The Bostitch price includes three tools: an 18-gauge brad nailer for 5/8-inch to 2-inch brads, a 16-gauge finish nailer for 1-1/4-inch to 2-1/2-inch nails, and a 3/8-inch crown stapler, plus a hose and fittings, per the Amazon listing. Bob Vila's reviewer said the kit could be used right after unpacking without buying anything else.

The compressor itself has a 6-gallon tank against the California Air Tools model's 1 gallon, so it stores more air before the motor kicks back on. In Bob Vila's testing it kept up with one person laying shingles with a roofing nailer, and it removed lug nuts with an impact wrench, though it cycled more often doing that.

Noise and weight: where the California Air Tools model wins

California Air Tools rates the 1P1060S at 56 decibels. Its motor runs at 1,680 RPM, which the maker says cuts noise and wear. Bob Vila's reviewer called it comparable to casual conversation and recommended it for indoor use.

The Bostitch ran at about 80 decibels during recovery in Bob Vila's testing, which the reviewer compared to a vacuum cleaner or alarm clock and called potentially too loud for indoor use. It's also heavier: Amazon lists the kit at 41.8 pounds, against 29 pounds for the California Air Tools compressor.

When to buy

Amazon's 2025 Black Friday Week ran from November 20 through Cyber Monday, December 1. Amazon hasn't announced its 2026 dates yet, so check the listings through that window rather than only on Black Friday itself.

Prices on the Bostitch kit swing a lot between stores. When Bob Vila updated its review in April 2024, the kit sold for around $200 at Lowe's and around $300 at Amazon and Walmart. On October 21, 2026, Amazon listed it at $285.95 and the California Air Tools 1P1060S at $119.99. Check both prices on Amazon before you buy; the price at checkout is the one that counts.

Traps to avoid

Compare CFM at the same pressure. California Air Tools lists 1.6 CFM at 40 PSI and 1.2 CFM at 90 PSI for the same machine, and only the 90 PSI figure tells you about nail guns. Amazon's spec table for the Bostitch kit also lists '1 cfm' with no pressure, which doesn't match the 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI in Bob Vila's review, so don't judge it from that table alone.

Don't buy a small compressor for a paint sprayer or an air sander. Those tools draw air continuously, and Senco lists them at 4.5 to 10 SCFM, well past what either of these can supply.

Before you check out

  1. List the air tools you'll actually use, and check each tool's CFM at 90 PSI in its manual against the compressor's.
  2. If you already own nail guns, you're paying for three more in the Bostitch kit; the California Air Tools model may be enough.
  3. If you'll work indoors or near neighbors, weigh 56 dB against about 80 dB.
  4. Check where you'll plug it in. The California Air Tools model draws 4.5 amps; Senco notes a tool that draws more than the outlet's rating can trip the breaker.
  5. Make sure the kit includes the hose you need; the Amazon listing says a 1/4-inch by 15-foot hose, and Bob Vila's kit came with a 25-foot hose.
  6. Check both Amazon prices during Black Friday Week, from late November through Cyber Monday.

How we put this guide together

We don't test air compressors in a lab. We compared Bob Vila's published test results for both compressors (its tested roundup of home air compressors and its full Bostitch kit review), California Air Tools' own 1P1060S product page, both products' Amazon listings (checked October 21, 2026), Senco's guide to how much air each tool needs, and Amazon's announcement of its 2025 Black Friday Week dates. Where two sources gave different numbers, like the Bostitch kit's weight and hose length, we show both. We picked this topic because people search Google for 'black friday air compressor deals', and these two are Bob Vila's best overall and best value home compressors, both sold on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases; that doesn't change which compressor we suggest for whom.

Quick answers

Is a 1-gallon air compressor enough for a nail gun?

For a brad nailer or a light stapler, yes. Senco lists those tools at 0.7 SCFM, and the California Air Tools 1P1060S supplies 1.2 CFM at 90 PSI. For a framing nailer, which Senco lists at 4.5 SCFM, it's too small.

Which is quieter, the Bostitch kit or California Air Tools 1P1060S?

The California Air Tools 1P1060S, rated at 56 decibels. Bob Vila reported about 80 decibels for the Bostitch pancake compressor while it refilled.

Can the Bostitch pancake compressor run an impact wrench?

Only in short bursts. Bob Vila used it to remove lug nuts with an impact wrench, but it cycled more often. Senco lists air wrenches at 4.5 SCFM, and the Bostitch supplies 2.6 CFM at 90 PSI.

Can either compressor run a paint sprayer?

Not well. Senco lists paint sprayers at 10 SCFM. Bob Vila said the Bostitch might handle light-duty spray guns for touch-ups, and said the California Air Tools model isn't designed for high-capacity tools such as commercial spray guns.

When is the best time to buy an air compressor on Amazon?

Amazon's biggest fall sale is Black Friday Week; in 2025 it ran November 20 through Cyber Monday, December 1. Amazon hasn't announced its 2026 dates yet.
